A 10-point plan for Africa

As May is Africa month, VYLTP is focusing on Africa during its Thursday programme.

Here are ten steps towards a new Africa, inspired by what I believe. It is in no particular order, and your comments on this and your own suggestions and reflections will be appreciated.

Edwin Arrison’s ten steps towards the true liberation of Africa

  1. Empower as many African women as possible (especially with education, healthcare, economic opportunities and leadership positions).
  2. Ensure that every African child that is born is registered, has the right nutrition, healthcare and education, especially in the first 1000 days.
  3. Tax alcohol, cigarettes and gambling at the highest level possible (and restrict its use) and use that tax revenue for healthcare and education.
  4. Africa should grow its own food and distribute it freely among its people.
  5. Africa should control its own mineral resources and add value to it before it is exported.
  6. All African currencies and passports to be printed with all the necessary security features on the continent.
  7. Europe to return all Africa’s art and other resources it has stolen.
  8. Bolster African armies towards a maximum state of readiness and ban all foreign armies from the continent. Set up mechanisms to secure and control all weapons on the continent.
  9. Ensure that clean water, clean air and clean energy are produced and distributed everywhere on the continent.
  10. Make Africa a huge building site: building roads and railways, airports and ports and all infrastructure necessary for the total development of all Africa’s people.

What, for you, is the single most important point? You can offer your own ideas too. Please let us know in the Comment function below this post (scroll to the end).
