What a week! Key highlights include collaboration discussions with the Methodist church, and VYLTP alumni becoming ambassadors. Upcoming events include Mandela Day celebrations and a special 100% donation matching opportunity.
- Thank you again all for your prayers and support. It is really encouraging. Special thanks to Chiara Moodley (daughter of one of our ambassadors, Lutz Gambale) who is going above and beyond to support our 10/10/10 campaign …
- More highlights of the past week: Rev. Phezile Koekoe of the Methodist church youth division (based in Jhb) and I had a zoom call to see to what extent Methodist Youth across Southern Africa could work with VYLTP.
We will start in the Cape and take it from there. For those who do not know, the Methodist Church was the biggest supporter of NYLTP (the National Youth Leadership training programme) and they are now considering working with and supporting VYLTP…. This is very positive and we will seek to build these positive relationships with other denominations as well. - We had a great visit from Sam and Janalene White (two VYLTP alumnae based in Atlanta, Georgia) and their families. Sam blew us away when he sang his rendition of “His eye is on the sparrow”… The two of them will become VYLTP ambassadors for the 10/10/10 and raise another 9 people who will give $10 per month for 10 months.
- The du Cheynes, who moved into Hermanus at the end of 2024, has decided to join us in our quest to make VYLTP sustainable and help with the 10/10/10 campaign. They will also introduce our work to the Hermanus Business chamber.
- Liviwe, one of our young people, has been accepted for study at Boland College in Caledon! We wish her well as she starts there this week.
- I did a teams meeting with Madeleine Petersen from Gqeberha, who will do her master’s thesis on “VYLTP and Taizé”. Watch this space.
- The visit by two researchers, Mel and Yumi from Avreq in Stellenbosch. was also a highlight. They will focus on the 3-year research project on what it takes to transmit “multi-generational wellness”.
- Friday 18 July is Mandela Day! Come at 11h30 to the Boxing club (next to Waldorf) to be ready to start drumming for 67 minutes non-stop at 12pm. Bring along some food to share afterwards and a small donation that will be shared 50/50 between VYLTP and the Boxing club.
