The young people made us and themselves proud on Thursday when they presented about their Grahamstown/Makhanda trip in the chapel at Volmoed. This was also a way to build their confidence to do public presentations. For people whose first language is not English, they did very well!
Other highlights of the week
- Elaine Davies of the Village News did a wonderful article, Drumming for Mandela, on VYLTP this week. Watch out for more Mandela Day photos in the Village News next week.
- The other way in which the young people stepped forward this week was when they pledged to become donors and ambassadors of the 10/10/10 campaign this week. Their goal is to raise 1000 donors in the Overstrand by end of December this year. We will soon list their names on the 10/10/10 campaign page.
- Big thanks to Viveka Nordstrom from Sweden for her wonderful contribution to the 10/10/10. She will become a platinum ambassador!
- We recently sold one of our drums through the Hermanus Tourism Bureau and replaced it with a new drum this week. Thank you Adinda and your team at HTB!
- The 67 minutes of non-stop drumming for Mandela Day went very well. Some Mothers came with their children, and it was a day worthy of Nelson Mandela! Schaun from Mt Pleasant gave each of the young people a packet of groceries as his contribution to Mandela Day
- Letter have been sent to Bishop Yvette and Michel Hansrod about our relationship with the Methodist Church. We look forward to building this relationship.
In August …

Spotlight
Our focus for our Thursday programme in August is on gender-based violence. Hope Africa helps to facilitate these sessions and we hope to raise deep awareness of this scourge.
