Global hearts, local beats: VYLTP and the township welcome

WhatsApp weekly update 10-15 November 2025

A year ago, we were in the USA on our “Drumming for unity and healing” tour. It was a few days after Trump’s election and many people felt encouraged by our presence.

Yesterday I counted that we have at least seven USA groups and one group from Canada visiting us in 2026.

It is estimated that about six overseas tourists create one job in South Africa. USA visitors now surpass UK visitors to South Africa. The more tourists we have, the more jobs are created. “Township tourism” should become as important as visiting a wine farm or watching whales. Watch this space….

Those who did not travel to the USA last year went to the UCT Graduate School of Business. Today we shall again be addressing MPhil students at the GSB on Cape Town’s Waterfront. This will be our third annual visit to them. Thanks Prof. Jess! They bought 32 of our drums.

We will also visit the Groote Kerk today to drop the 20 drums they ordered. Blessings on Riaan and his congregation!

Next Saturday we shall have our last Taizé day for the year at Volmoed. 18 to 35 yr olds who would like to attend can register at https://forms.gle/sGoyj7XzfAjbNqQw6.

On Tuesday, two young students (one is my daughter) visited the Drumming project and took some beautiful photos and also created a short video. We will soon post it on our “Gallery” page on our website.

Yesterday, we welcomed a friend of Kevin Johansson (Trevor) at the drumming project. We will continue to discern if and how we can collaborate.

On Thursday, the Benedictine monks at Volmoed took part in their last Thursday service at Volmoed. They will soon be moving to the southern Cape (Harkerville). VYLTP gifted them with one of our drums. We wish them well! Themba Lonzi, a master drummer and facilitator, came to spend time with the drummers on Thursday.

Helping@Home asked us to join their network this week. This is a group of South Africans across the globe who want to help projects “at home”. I joined their WhatsApp group and will see what happens.

This week we welcome one of our great supporters (a judge from New York City). We look forward to welcoming you, Elizabeth!

Thanks again to all our wonderful supporters across the globe! We appreciate you.
